Head of the Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, announced on Monday her support for former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's call to raise funds to help the Cuban people. This call was made last Saturday. Brugada emphasized that she will make a personal contribution and will launch a campaign in the capital's government in the coming days to 'promote actions, food donations, and collection efforts' in favor of the Cuban people. She stated that thousands of people in this very solidary city will be contributing resources and support to stand in solidarity with the Cuban people, who are suffering from a grave situation. Brugada did not specify the amount of her personal contribution. In turn, Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked López Obrador for his solidarity, stating, 'We will never forget your support.' As reported by LPO, former President López Obrador has once again come out of political retirement, calling on citizens to make financial contributions to the account of the 'Humanity with Latin America' civil association to 'buy food, medicine, oil, and gasoline, and help the Cuban people.' Brugada also called on the international community, as the United Nations does every year, to lift the economic blockade against Havana. She also demanded attention be paid to the situation on the Caribbean island, citing General Lázaro Cárdenas during the Bay of Pigs invasion: 'It is not licit to preach our indifference before their heroic struggle, because their fate is our fate.'
